Now, how does this make sense? Well, we're defining The previous term, plus- in this case, we'reĪdding 3 every time. And so then weĬould write a sub k is equal to the previous term. And here, we're goingįrom our first term- so this is a sub 1, But I could use the notationī sub k or anything else. This is equal to- and people tend to use a. Now, how would I denote thisīusiness right over here? Well, I could say that The domain, is restricted to positive integers. Traditional function notation, I could have written I have essentially defined a function here. So this is one way to explicitlyĭefine our sequence with kind of this function notation. Times 3, or maybe I should write 3 times k Here, I could say a sub k is equal to some function of k. Sequence, I could define it as a sub k from k equals 1 toĤ, with- instead of explicitly writing the numbers It defining our sequence as explicitly using kind of aįunction notation or something close to function notation. Now, I could also define itīy not explicitly writing the sequence like this. So this just says, all of theĪ sub k's from k equals 1, from our first term, all This right over here is the sequence a sub kįor k is going from 1 to 4, is equal to thisĪt it this way, we can look at each of these as But I want to make usĬomfortable with how we can denote sequences andĪlso how we can define them. This is infinite, to show that we keep this Keep adding the same amount, we call these ![]() Infinite sequence- let's say we start atģ, and we keep adding 4. Video is familiarize ourselves with the notion of a sequence. I assume for quizzes however that they will continue to specify the start 1, so just work around it. You can easily avoid this problem in your own work by explicitly starting your K to start at 0. In modern Computer Science(Programming), we don't work with Indexes like this any longer, and starting an Index at 1 is generally fallen out of fashion largely in part of this constant need to work around the problem. We need to subtract 1 to bring back that balance. The current Index can be seen as offset by 1 due to starting at 1. If We look at K=1 and did not subtract 1 from the current index we would actually get 1+3(1) = 4 or 1+3(2)=7. This number increments each time across the "loop" and can be seen as similar to the Sigma∑ notation's looping functionality in that respect.) PreNote: ( k=1 is an index location, like finding a book in a library. This is essentially a "hack" to avoid counting your current "index" location against the math.

![]() Over on Discovery, the top-secret “Spore Drive” transported a starship into the mycelial network, which then allowed the ship to emerge anywhere in the galaxy at any time. We never really were told what that meant, but after Scotty sabotaged the ship, Starfleet never tried “transwarp” again. CBS/Paramount+īeyond transwarp - In Star Trek III: The Search For Spock, the USS Excelsior was outfitted with an experimental transwarp drive. The USS Protostar might be the only ship of its kind. But what’s interesting is that Trek has kind of done this before. The idea of harnessing the condensed matter in singularities or protostars and somehow turning that into something that makes you travel several times faster than the speed of light is iffy at best, at least IRL. (Thinking about an artificial version of a dead star will make your brain hurt.) The protostar is a baby star, so, similar idea, but the other end of the star spectrum. In a sense, a quantum singularity is like the opposite of a protostar its extremely dense matter could be formed by a black hole or a dead star (in theory). A protostar is a baby star, while a quantum singularity is the remnants of a dead one. The point is, using a protostar as a warp core, and using a quantum singularity as a warp core are related insofar as both touch upon super-theoretical ideas about stars themselves. In the Next Generation episode “Timescape,” we learned that Romulans used an artificial quantum singularity in their warp cores, presumably, to create a similar kind of spacetime warp effect. But, not everybody powers their warp cores that way. Later, everyone just started saying “warp” instead.įor Federation ships in Trek lore, the matter/antimatter reaction is helped-along by dilithium crystals. In fact in the first Trek pilot, “The Cage,” in 1964 the term “time warp” was used. The idea of speed in “warp speed” is a bit of a misnomer since the ships are kind of folding (warping) spacetime to get where they want to go. In the loosey-goosey physics of Star Trek, warp drive is made possible by an anti-matter/matter reaction, which creates a warp “bubble” that then allows ships to traverse space and time. ![]() This giant Romulan Warbird used a quantum singularity to go to warp. In other words, the idea of using an actually tiny protostar as some kind of core for a warp engine is new to Trek canon. Yes, the ship called the USS Protostar apparently also has an actual protostar powering some kind of special warp drive.Īs the crew of the Protostar tries to escape the clutches of the Diviner, Gywn and Zero kick things up a notch into “proto-warp.” This seems to propel the ship into a totally new kind of realm, something separate and apart from the kinds of warp drive we’ve seen before. Spoilers ahead for Star Trek: Prodigy Episode 5, “Terror Firma.” What is Proto-warp in Star Trek canon?Īt the very end of Prodigy Episode 5, “Terror Firma,” we learn the mysterious engine powering this Federation starship is literally a small protostar. Here’s why the introduction of “proto-warp” in Star Trek: Prodigy shakes up how we think about warp drive in general, and how it could impact the canon of Picard and Discovery. In the mid-season finale of Star Trek: Prodigy, a new revelation about how the USS Protostar actually works both changes the existing Trek canon about propulsion through space and doubles down on something you probably forgot about from The Next Generation. ![]() The head of Radio Maisha is Tom Japanni, KTN Managing Editor is Ellen Wanjiru, while Standard Digital Managing Editor is Carole Kimutai. The Daily Nation (Kenya) is seen as the most influential of all the Kubernetes ComponentsĪ Kubernetes deployment includes a cluster consisting of one or several worker nodes that run containerized applications. Users only need to provide their physical specifications and number of nodes, and the cluster can be scaled up and down automatically. Cloud infrastructure such as Google Cloud and AWS help automate cluster management. ![]() When you add nodes to this “node pool” to scale out the cluster, workloads are rebalanced across the new nodes. A cluster contains a Kubernetes control plane and nodes that provide memory and compute resources. ClusterĪ cluster is a collection of all the above components. You can perform operations via command-line scripts or HTTP-based API calls. This component controls the interaction between Kubernetes and your applications. Control PlaneĪdministrators and users can access Kubernetes through the control plane to manage nodes and workloads. These components include a container runtime, kube-proxy, and kubelet. Each Kubernetes node has services to create runtime environments and support pods. Nodes contain the services required to run pods, communicate with master components, configure networking, and run assigned workloads. NodeĪ Kubernetes node is a logical collection of IT resources that supports one or more containers. A service acts as a trusted endpoint for communication between components or applications. The service is assigned a virtual IP address called clusterIP and holds it until it is explicitly destroyed. Instead, it connects to the service and relays it to the currently running, connected Pod. This means that Pods that need to communicate with other Pods cannot rely on the IP address of a single primary Pod. Kubernetes guarantees the availability of specific pods and replicas, but does not guarantee the uptime of individual pods. The need for a Service stems from the fact that pods in Kubernetes are temporary and can be replaced at any time. The service is responsible for maintaining access policies and enforcing these policies for incoming requests. In Kubernetes, a Service is an entity that represents a set of pods that run an application or functional component. The Deployment adds or removes pods to maintain the desired application state, and tracks pod state to ensure optimal deployment. It also specifies a policy for distributing updates. Users need to define replication settings, specifying how the pod should be replicated on Kubernetes nodes.Ī Deployment object specifies the default number of clones Kubernetes should create of the same pod. DeploymentĪ Deployment allows users to specify the scale at which applications should run. However, Kubernetes also supports a persistent storage mechanism called PersistentVolumes. This means that if you replace or destroy a pod, its data is lost. Many processes work together, sharing the same amount of computing resources.īy default, pods work with temporary storage. This is useful for more complex workload configurations. Multi-container pods, on the other hand, make deployment configuration easier, because they can automatically share resources between containers. ![]() In some cases, a pod can contain a single container. Resources such as storage and RAM are shared by all containers in the same pod, so they can run as one application. Each pod has an IP address shared by all containers. Let’s review some of the fundamental concepts of a Kubernetes environment.Ī pod is a set of containers, the smallest architectural unit managed by Kubernetes.
